We took the Moves Media‘s 360 video rig for a ride on Bowen Island (20 minute ferry ride from Vancouver, BC) yesterday hiking to the top of Mount Gardner.
We wanted to start at the lowest point of the island (sea level) and see how long it would take to get to the highest point on the Island. Mount Gardner happens to be the highest mountain standing 740m above sea level. The hike from the bottom of the trail takes about an hour and a half or in our case 2 hours from the ocean. As you will see in the video the hike isn’t that long but definitely is quite steep. The climb really pays off when you get to the top as the views are incredible. You can see all of Vancouver including West Van, Downtown, Kits, and even parts of the airport and the Lions over the Sea to Sky highway.
For the video we use the 6 camera rig filled with Gopro hero 4’s. We have a travel tripod that we masked in the first and final shot but left in the second shot. 360 or VR video is incredible for explore and adventure videos. It really allows the viewer to be immersed in unique environments and look at views, trees, rocks, and the focal points if they choose.
